Niles man takes plea in kidnapping case

By Chris McBride 2 min read

WARREN -- A Niles man pleaded guilty to kidnapping, among other charges, in connection to holding a woman inside a garage where police later found her.

Jeffrey A. Green, 35, of Peffer Street in Niles, was before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Cynthia Rice, where he entered a plea of guilty to an amended indictment of burglary, attempted felonious assault and kidnapping.

The Niles Police Department arrested Green in November 2022 at a garage unit he owned in the 100 block of Fulton Avenue, where police found the woman after being taken against her will.

Police were alerted to the woman's home following a call for a welfare check, after the victim's friend, with whom the woman was video chatting, heard her telling a man to leave her home. She heard loud noises inside her home before the woman shouted "Jeff,"-- the name of the ex-boyfriend. The call then ended abruptly.

A police report states the woman was taken from her Olive Street home in Niles by Green after he had ambushed her, hiding inside an upstairs bedroom of the home.

When attempts were made by the woman to scream and alert nearby neighbors, she reported to police that Green taped her mouth shut, strangled and punched her.

She said Green didn't make threats throughout the encounter, and his only remarks were telling her to "shut up and go with him."

Green led the woman through the woods behind her home toward his Fulton Avenue home where she said he forced her inside of his truck to take her to a garage.

The location of the garage was tipped off to police by an elderly man after a search of the Fulton Avenue home came up empty.

When police arrived, they knocked on the garage door where Green emerged and surrendered to police, the report states.

Police took the woman to the Niles Police Department, where she filled out a statement and gave background information on her relationship to Green, the report states. She told police that the two lived together for three years until she moved out just a month-and-a-half prior to that day's events.
