WARREN -- A Warren man was sentenced to 12 months behind bars after pleading guilty to fourth-degree felony charges related to a robbery in February at a Cortland convenient store.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan sentenced Tyler Sharp, 22, of Main Avenue SW, after Sharp pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a reduced charge of attempted robbery. He was indicted on a robbery charge in April.
Charges against Sharp stem from a holdup Feb. 27 at Valley View Food Mart in Cortland, where Sharp was accused of taking THC products off the shelves after telling store employees that he had a firearm.
A police report states that employees said Sharp purchased cigars with cash, left, then came back minutes later to ask if the store was closed.
When told they were closed, Sharp refused to leave.
Sharp then said he had guns and reached into his bookbag, the report states. Store employees told police they ran into a back room to get away.
The report states that Sharp then threw CBD products into his bookbag and left.
He was later arrested at an apartment complex in Cortland, where the stolen goods were recovered.
Sharp later admitted to police that he did not have a weapon.
