WARREN -- Trumbull County Commissioners unanimously agreed to provide Commissioner Niki Frenchko $635.77 of the $682.67 she sought in an Oct. 4, 2022, expense report.
The vote ends a nearly year-long effort by Frenchko to be reimbursed for expenses she accumulated when she attended the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber Fly-In in Washington D.C., in June 2022.
During the commissioners' regular public workshop on Tuesday, Commissioners Denny Malloy and Mauro Cantalamessa, along with Auditor Martha Yoder, Human Resources Director Alexandra Devengencie-Bush went through all of the documents they had in dealing with Frenchko's Fly-In activities.
Frenchko did not attend Tuesday's workshop.
During Tuesday's discussion, it was believed that Frenchko was seeking $848.14 in reimbursements for her expenses.
They eliminated any tips given, meals purchased that could have been provided as part of the Fly-In programming and a late check-out expense incurred by Frenchko after her flight back to Youngstown was delayed.
Frenchko, during Wednesday's regular commissioners meeting, said not all documentation was provided to the group that reviewed the documentation.
The commissioner disagreed the late checkout fee should not have been reimbursed, because she used the time to discuss local issues with Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Kelly's legislative aide about YARS issues and briefly spoke with U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R, 4th District.
"I was doing county business," she said.
Frenchko said only about $50 of her October reimbursement request was not reimbursed.
The next Washington Fly-In is scheduled June 7 and 8.
Frenchko and Malloy expressed interest in attending the 2023 event.
