Seeing eye: Summer product distribution begins today

FRESH PRODUCE: The Warren Family Mission, 1312 W. Market St., Warren, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, is starting its summer produce distribution today.

The mission pantry will host a produce giveaway the first Friday of every month from today until Oct. 6. Giveaways start at 9:30 a.m. and go until supplies last.

HORSE SHOW: The Trumbull Career and Technical Center's Equestrian Studies program will host a horse show starting 9 a.m. Saturday at TCTC, 528 Educational Highway, Champion. The show is open to the community.

For those interested in participating in the horse show, there is a $5 per class fee and a $10 fee for stakes classes. Spectating is free for all ages, and concessions will be available for spectators and families to purchase something to eat.

TCTC's current horse stable is more than 40 years old. The school plans to build a new equestrian center this year. The fundraiser show has been organized by the equestrian students and all of the proceeds to help offset the cost of new equipment for the program.

RUMMAGE SALE: The Orwell American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a rummage sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday ($2 bag day) at the American Legion, 215 N. Maple St., Orwell.

RUMMAGE AND BAKE SALE: The Daughters of Mary are sponsoring a rummage, bake and soup sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday (bag day) at St. Mary Church in Orwell.

ALUMNI BANQUET: The Hartford-Badger Alumni Association is in the process of planning the 136th annual alumni banquet, which will be at 6 p.m. May 13 at the Sharpsville VFW Post 6404, 215 Walnut Ext., Sharpsville, Pa.

The 50-year class of 1973 will be honored. Cost to attend is $17 per person.

FAMILY DAY: The Niles Historical Society is hosting Family Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ward-Thomas property. The event is sponsored by the Trumbull County Historical Society. The event is free.

At least nine historical societies in Trumbull County will present displays, stories and activities. Children will be encouraged to try their hands at "old-time" games and will be treated with prizes. Refreshments will be provided. The Ward-Thomas Museum will be open for tours.

Due to this event, there will be no open house Sunday.

HOOKS AND NEEDLES: McKinley Memorial Library invites the public to bring their knitting, crocheting or sewing projects and enjoy spending time with others who work with hooks and needles 2 to 4 p.m. today. This program will take place at the library. Lessons will not be provided.

SHRED AND FILL-THE-CRUISER: Protect-N-Shred and Fill-the-Cruiser Day are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Howland SCOPE Center.

Township residents can bring up to five large garbage bags of paper to be shredded. No office or commercial shredding will be accepted.

The Howland Police Department will hold its annual Fill-the-Cruiser Day to benefit the Bolindale Food Pantry.

All donated nonperishable food will stock the pantry to assist community members in need.

ROCK TRIBUTE FUNDRAISER: Wheels for Krista-Egg My Yard will present Cambries Fundraiser-4-Wheels with a '90s rock tribute from Bad JuJu from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Leon's Sports Bar and Grill in Howland.

Tickets, $20 each, will be available at the door or by contacting Danella Monsman at 330-647-0673.

All proceeds go toward the purchase of a handicap- accessible van for 12-year-old Cambrie Bentley of Girard, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

OPERATION MEDICINE CABINET: The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, 5138 Enterprise Drive, Warren, will hold Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The event is a prescription drug disposal program to protect the community,

CLEANUP IN NEWTON: Newton Township will hold its annual spring clean-up and scrap tire collection 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the township administration building, 4410 Newton Falls-Bailey Road. Electronic waste (computers and televisions) and appliances will be included in the collection.

Not being accepted are hazardous waste, business waste or construction debris.

The event is for residents only. Identification is required.

VOLUNTEER DAY: Warren Grown is seeking volunteers to help get the farm ready for the 2023 growing season 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 1145 Front St. SW. Volunteers will help spread wood chips, fill new raised beds with soil, prepare beds for planting and place edging.
