BROOKFIELD -- A Niles man is facing charges in Trumbull County Eastern District Court connected to an incident in Brookfield where township police followed a smoking vehicle Wednesday afternoon through the township.
Brandon Cramer, 26, of Youngstown Warren Road, was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest, menacing, operating a vehicle impaired and stopping in a road. At the arraignment Thursday, Cramer pleaded not guilty and was later released after posting $3,500 bond, court records show.
His next pretrial hearing before Judge Marty Nosich is set for Thursday.
Police were alerted about 5:50 p.m. to a red vehicle that was shaking and smoking off the side of state Route 82, one mile west of state Route 7. The vehicle proceeded to move eastbound on Route 82 toward Addison Road, sometimes traveling in reverse and driving on a blown tire, Trumbull County 911 reports state.
The driver was refusing officers' orders and tried to escape over a guardrail and into a wooded area. The suspect, identified as Cramer, had to be subdued by a stun weapon, the report states.
The officers confiscated from the red vehicle a spilled bucket of liquor and a safe that smelled like marijuana, the report states.
