WARREN -- A Warren man was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a third-degree burglary charge for a break-in July 4, 2022, at a Howland home.
Jacob L. Ansel, 38, of Homewood Avenue SE, also pleaded guilty to a possession of a fentanyl-related compound in an unrelated case investigated by Warren police.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Sean O'Brien this week followed the plea deal arranged by Ansel's attorney and prosecutors, which called for concurrent prison terms for the two cases.
According to police reports, Ansel was discovered drinking on the patio of his sister's home. Howland police determined that a burglar had broken into a rear sliding door of the home and had taken multiple items, including jewelry.
Later, Warren police had tracked Ansel to his home where they found jewelry on him, the report states.
The drug possession case involved a call on Feb. 26, 2022, to Warren police and emergency medical services, to a High Street home to investigate a drug overdose.
EMS had already administered two doses of the opioid reverse drug Narcan to the victim, identified as Ansel. A bindle was found in his wallet that contained a small amount of a substance that later tested for a fentanyl-related compound, prosecutors said.
Prior to sentencing, Ansel apologized to his sister for his actions. After his release from prison, the judge said Ansel could face up to three years of extended supervision from the Ohio Department of Corrections' parole authority.
