WARREN -- Warren Mayor Doug Franklin's campaign turned in its completed campaign finance report Friday morning, more than a week past the deadline.
By April 20 at 4 p.m., which was the deadline for candidates filing pre-primary reports, Franklin had just turned in a cover letter, which gave totals for how much his campaign had spent and received.
But in the amended report filed Friday, some of those totals had changed.
The amended report also came with the list and backup documentation detailing who had given money to his campaign and how it was spent.
Franklin reported that he brought $20,195 from his last filing and got $19,700 in monetary contributions, bringing the total funds he had available to $39,895.
All of the monetary contributions were made at a fundraising event, according to the report. A total of 40 contributions were made, eight of which were $1,000 or more.
Franklin's top contributor was Operating Engineers Local 66 District 2 of Youngstown, which gave $2,500. Sam Covelli, CEO of Covelli Enterprises; Anthony Payiavlas, CEO and president of AVI Food Systems; and Western Reserve Building and Construction Trades Council of Youngstown each gave $1,500.
Only $155 in in-kind contributions were received.
Franklin got another $1,250 from selling tickets to the fundraiser.
Spending was $13,020. Franklin spent most of the money on advertisements, promotional items, and donations or tickets to fundraisers for other organizations.
Almost $5,000 was spent on promotional materials, including $2,200 to Patriot Signage Inc. of Cincinnati for yard signs, $950 to Minuteman Press of Warren for yard signs, $1,835 to the Youngstown Print Shop for postcards, door hangers, absentee chasers and cards. Just $375 was spent on Franklin's fundraising event.
This leaves Franklin with $26,872 on hand with just days until the primary election Tuesday. Franklin is being challenged by Councilman at-Large Ken MacPherson in the Democratic primary.
