WHAT: Board of education meeting Monday
PRESENT: Aaron Abrahamson, Patricia Fisher, David Mahan, John Pitts and Jim Scher
The board:
• Approved a field trip for sixth-to ninth-grade students Oct. 5 to 8 to Traverse City, Mich., for educational science study. Students and chaperones will be transported by chartered bus. Families are responsible to pay the $320 per student cost;
• Gave approval for the Champion FIRST Robotics team to attend the Buckeye Regional competition March 30 to April 1 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. Twelve students in grades eight to 12 will be transported by district school bus with the cost covered by the Robotics booster organization;
• Passed a resolution to support strengthening the fair school funding plan and opposition to the proposed backpack scholarship legislation. Officials said they oppose the backpack scholarship program, which they say increases the number of vouchers for students to attend private and parochial schools at the expense of public taxpayers;
• Accepted the retirement / resignation of Pam Wildman, food service staff, effective May 23;
• Announced the annual Swing into Spring event will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the PK-8 School cafeteria. The Senior Citizen of the Year Award will be presented at the event;
