HOWLAND -- The disc golf course at Howland Township Park opened with a recent ribbon cutting and a disc tournament with 85 players.
Jessica Gault, park board vice chairwoman, said with the mild winter the disc golf course already has been used quite a bit, including the large tournament held in February.
She said Servicemaster by Lewis Construction provided a $10,000 donation for the project and other sponsors covered each of the 18 holes on the course at $300 each.
In December, Brad Silvers, course designer and installer of the Trumbull County Disc Golf Association, attended a park board meeting. He reported that the new 18-hole Tiger Town Disc Golf Course has been played more than 500 times since its opening.
He and park officials said the park is the ideal size for a disc golf course.
Silvers has said in Trumbull County, close to 2,000 players go to various disc golf locations.
The board announced the park will open May 1 with restrooms opening April 1.
Gault said plans are underway for the Music in the Park series to be held Sunday evenings from June to August.
The park board is discussing adding two pickleball courts and a basketball court at an available area on the northwest corner of the main township park.
