BAZETTA -- The township is planning a cleanup Saturday at Bazetta Township Park, which was damaged in last weekend's storm.
Trustee Mike Morelli said the park has trees that were damaged, with some having hanging branches that are ready to fall. He said areas of the park have been taped off and also signs are posted to keep people away from the trees.
"With some of the branches hanging, we can't have anyone underneath the trees until we get it fixed," he said.
The cleanup, being done to prepare for the park's opening April 8, includes Imagination Station. Volunteers are needed. It starts at 9 a.m. The event was scheduled for March 26, but was canceled because of the weather.
An Easter egg hunt also is planned for April 8 at the park. It starts at 11 a.m.
Also, trustees approved purchasing 200 cubic yards of bulk wood fiber for $4,267 from Fibar Group LLC for Imagination Station to comply with the insurance standards of the Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority.
Officials said the work to spread the material tentatively is set for May 15 to 19. Imagination Station will be closed during the period for safety reasons.
Trustee Bob McBride said township road crews have been doing cleanup work in other parts of the township, including the cemetery, following the storm. McBride said the restrooms at the park have been checked and are good.
In other business, trustees:
• Announced the police department will hold a drug takeback event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 at the police department. Also planned is the annual Bazetta Safety Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3 at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds;
• Accepted a $2,046 scrap tire grant from Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District with tires being collected 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the road department. There is a limit of eight tires per resident;
• Approved buying a crack seal machine for the road department not to exceed $7,500;
• Heard from zoning Inspector Pete Pizzulo the zoning commission has been working on updates for language in zoning codes for indoor / outdoor shooting ranges and events, breweries, agricultural exemptions, the Youngstown Air Reserve Station overlay project and storage of fireworks and explosives.
