WARREN -- Two Warren adults were released on separate $2,500 bonds after reports of "deplorable" conditions led to two children and 19 animals being removed from their home.
Homeowners and parents Roy W. King, 37, and Taylor M. Mick, 29, both pleaded guilty to charges of child endangering Thursday morning in Warren Municipal Court. The pair were ordered by Judge Terry Ivanchak to have no contact with their children until approved by Trumbull County Children Services.
Their next court hearing is set for this morning.
An agent from the Trumbull County Animal Welfare League alerted police to a home in the 200 block of Belmont Street NE home Wednesday afternoon, describing the conditions of the home's interior to be so poor that AWL decided to remove 18 cats and one dog.
The report states that, in February, Children Services showed up to the home for a similar incident in a now-closed case, and King and Mick were pressed to develop a safety plan for the children.
With no immediate family to care for the children, the report states that on Wednesday, Children Services took charge of the children after they were dropped off by the school bus that afternoon.
The report states the AWL agent reported initially being unable to enter the home, citing an odor of "feces, cat urine and an overpowering smell of bleach."
Photos taken inside the home by the AWL agent depict the floor leading to the bedroom of the children, ages 6 and 4, being covered in urine and feces stains. The photos also show mounds of what appears to be fecal matter piled inside a litter box. Another image shows cockroaches coming from the walls.
The parents told the agent they had been cleaning for an hour prior to the agents arrival to the home, the report states.
A look into the living room showed no furniture and a floor covered in dirt along with what the agent reported to police as being a sticky film and dead insects.
