BAZETTA -- The Bazetta Township Police Department is updating the community on two recent instances where shots were fired, but asking for the public's help in providing more information.
Police Chief Christopher Herlinger said the cases are not related.
A shooting in the 2900 block of North Park Avenue after 5 p.m. Wednesday resulted in a man's death. A police news release states the department is pursuing leads in the death of Michael Nigrin, 53. He was shot multiple times and a manner of death is pending. Evidence was collected and is being tested, the release states.
The second shooting happened at the Walmart on Millennium Boulevard, which was on lockdown just before 6 p.m. Thursday. Police said shots were fired between two vehicles in the parking lot.
An employee said a fight inside the store spilled into the lot and one of the people involved pulled a gun and fired several times. No one was injured and no vehicles were damaged, according to police.
Police had a portion of the store taped off and searched for shell casings. The store reopened around 8 p.m.
According to the news release, a man fired a handgun at another vehicle's occupants before fleeing. The vehicle was described as a white Jeep SUV.
As a preventive measure between police and Walmart, officers will be working security detail inside the store to ensure a safe shopping environment.
