LORDSTOWN -- Foxconn plans to produce its own electric vehicle, the Foxtron Model B, at its Lordstown auto assembly plant, according to multiple published reports.
The Taiwanese company, the world's largest electronics manufacturer, would start production of the all-electric hatchback in 2024 after starting initial production next year in China, according to Car and Driver magazine's website, one of the reports on the development.
Foxtron is a partnership between Foxconn and Yulon Motor Co., the largest automaker in Taiwan that has been a manufacturer for Nissan and, in 2009, started its own brand, Luxgen.
Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, teased the vehicle on Twitter. The 29-second clip is captioned, "It's beauty. It's beast. Breathtaking and bold. MODEL B -- the new masterpiece of our open EV platform is ready to take center stage!"
More details surrounding the vehicle and a full reveal are planned for Oct. 18, which is the date of this year's Hon Hai Tech Day 2022.
Car and Driver reported the Model B will be built on Foxconn's Mobility In Harmony open platform that would support two other models already revealed by Foxconn -- the crossover Model C and the Model E, a luxury sedan.
Italian auto design company Pininfarina designed the exterior of the Model B, according to reports.
A spokesman for Foxconn at the local facility could not provide more information Monday.
Today, Foxconn and Los Angeles-based INDIEV Inc. will reveal the startup's INDI One at the plant, the former General Motor small-car assembly plant.
The companies last week announced an agreement that calls for Foxconn to assemble the prototype vehicles of the INDI One in Lordstown. Details of a further potential collaboration beyond the prototype build will be disclosed later as negotiations continue.
The INDI One is described by the company as the first-ever vehicle with a vehicle-integrated computer capable of high-end gaming and learning the driver's habits.
With the acquisition of the factory from Lordstown Motors in May, Foxconn became the contract manufacturer of Lordstown Motors' first vehicle, the Endurance pickup truck, and also has announced a partnership with Monarch Tractor to mass produce the Livermore, Calif.-based company's MK-V Series tractor, a battery-powered driverless tractor.
Foxconn already had secured a manufacturing agreement with another California-based EV automaker, Fisker Inc., to produce its second vehicle -- the PEAR, or Personal Electric Automotive Revolution -- that also will be made in Lordstown.
Lordstown Motors announced last week commercial production of the Endurance has begun. It expects to deliver 50 trucks to customers this year, and up to 450 more in the first half of 2023, as long as it can raise enough capital.
Production of the PEAR is scheduled for 2024 and for the MK-V Series tractor, in the first quarter of 2023.
