Young leaders sought

Twenty under 20

2022NominationForm

WARREN — The Tribune Chronicle will mark a decade of honoring the youngest and most impressive leaders in Trumbull County with its 10th annual Twenty Under 20 program.

The Tribune Chronicle, along with co-sponsors Kent State University at Trumbull and Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, will recognize 20 high-achieving individuals younger than 20 years old for their leadership skills through volunteerism, extracurricular activities and academic achievements.

“The quality of these students is second to none. With the exceptional nominations we receive, it is very difficult for the judges to pick only 20,” said Sue Shafer, community events coordinator for the Tribune Chronicle.

Anyone — mothers, fathers, grandparents, teachers, guidance and youth counselors, church and service organization leaders — can nominate a young person who they think stands out among the crowd. Nominees need to be a resident of Trumbull County, at least a freshman in high school and no older than 19.

A student can be nominated even if he or she was nominated or won previously.

Winners will be selected based on leadership, which accounts for 50 percent, and academic and extracurricular activities, which account for 25 percent each. The top five students are recognized, and one is selected the overall winner.

The Tribune Chronicle will publish a magazine featuring the chosen individuals the day after the banquet on Dec. 6 at DiVieste’s.

Nomination forms can be acquired at local high school guidance offices or by contacting Shafer at sshafer@tribtoday.com or 330-841-1696.

Along with the form, applicants are permitted to attach up to five supporting documents, such as high school transcripts. A narrative about how they have shown leadership through community service, academic achievement and extracurricular activities should be included.

The forms can be turned in to Shafer at sshafer@tribtoday.com or mailed to her, c/o Tribune Chronicle, 240 Franklin St. SE, Warren, OH 44483.

Nominations are due by Oct. 3. Winners will be announced in the newspaper in October.
