LIBERTY -- A teen accused of making school threats is in police custody.
Liberty Local School District last week reported two threats about harming football players and other school groups, resulting in the cancellation of several school activities.
Township police now have a suspect in custody, a 17-year-old from Youngstown who previously attended Liberty schools but was not slated to attend this year.
In a statement, police Chief Toby Meloro said: "We … worked diligently to find the probable cause to make the arrest. What we wanted to do was set an example and we hope this sends a message to people that we put community and children first to ensure their safety and pursue threats about harming our community."
The suspect is in the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center and faces a second-degree felony charge of inducing panic, police said.
