A Warren man on Thursday was sentenced to 32 months in a federal prison on a gun charge conviction.
Charles D. Streeter, 35, of Summit Street NW, appeared before Judge James S. Gwin via video link to U.S. Northern Ohio District Court in Cleveland. Court records show on May 18, Streeter pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a weapon as a felon.
Gwin ordered that Streeter, after his release from prison, be on supervised released for three years with conditions. Fines were waived, but Streeter was assessed a special $100 court cost.
According to an affidavit by a special agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Streeter was arrested after an incident about 5:05 p.m. Feb. 23, investigated by Warren police officers at the Gasland gas station at 858 N. Park Ave., Warren.
Streeter was accused of pointing a gun at another patron, the report states. The gunman was described by a 911 dispatcher as wearing a red coat, who left on foot accompanied by a woman. A police officer spotted the two exiting the nearby grocery store and officers quickly drove to the store's parking lot.
The man in the red coat was identified as Streeter, whom the report stated was carrying two or three grocery bags. The man was detained after dropping the bags to the ground. One of the officers stated he could see a firearm in one of the grocery bags. Upon further investigation, a Taurus model G2C, 9mm semi-automatic pistol was removed from the bag, the report states. The pistol was loaded with eight live rounds and one spent casing in the chamber.
Upon questioning by police, Streeter denied pointing a pistol at anyone at the gas station. He explained he had the pistol along his waist and it fell out of his pants, and he had picked it up off the ground but did not point it at anyone, the report states.
Records show Streeter had been convicted of two felonies -- aggravated assault in November 2012 in Cuyahoga County and burglary in July 2019 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
The gun charge became a federal offense because ATF specialist Cory Miles stated the Taurus model was manufactured outside the state of Ohio and had traveled into the state, thus affecting interstate commerce.
Records show Streeter has been in custody since his arrest Feb. 23.
