WARREN -- Trumbull County authorities are investigating two recent dog attacks that injured two boys, ages 9 and 10.
A Warren police report states a 9-year-old Scott Street NE boy was injured and taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center after an attack Friday evening.
The boy's father said the boy, his brother and a friend were playing basketball when the neighbor's dog got out of its fenced-in yard. The 9-year-old told officers he knew this dog "wasn't nice" so he ran. The dog chased him, the report states, biting him on the left leg on the calf muscle.
The report states the boy had at least four puncture wounds. Officers told him the city dog warden would follow up on the report and decide whether the dog's owner would face charges. The report did not specify a breed for the animal.
In a separate dog bite report filed with the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, deputies investigated the dog attack on a 10-year-old boy outside a West Farmington church about 1 p.m. Sunday. Deputies were dispatched to Bread of Life Ministries at 6275 state Route 534, where the boy was being transported to a Geauga County hospital by his parents.
Witnesses told deputies that a pit bull was barking next door to the church, jumped out of an open window and ran into a group of people who had just left the church. Witnesses said the dog bit and dragged the child into the parking lot before people could separate the dog from its victim. The report states the owner of the dog put the animal inside the home along state Route 88 and then walked eastbound.
Deputies tried to make contact with the dog's owner, but the man living in the house said he was probably hiding from an arrest warrant. Deputies told the man the dog owner must contact the sheriff's office with the dog's shots record and show documentation that the leash law has been complied with.
The child was treated for multiple puncture wounds and given a tetanus shot in the stomach, the report states.
