WHAT: Board of education Monday

PRESENT: Jennifer Nicholas, Angela Campana, Mark Harper, Beth Harris, Danielle Scherer, Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor, Treasurer Sean Miller.

The board:

• Approved the 2022 graduating class of Lakeview High School. There are 113 graduating students, according to Lawrence Herrholtz, high school principal. Students voted to hold graduation outside again this year, and the ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 22 at the high school football stadium. Students will be able to bring unlimited guests, Herrholtz said. A rain date is 7 p.m. May 23;

• Approved continuing contracts for Audrey Gale, Tyler Husosky, Kaylee Kalman, Mark Novotnyand Amanda Stark; three-year contracts for Mariah Carbone, Alyssa Harkins and Sydney Stein and two-year contracts for Matt Baker, Cameron Carson, Ashley Corp, Sara Dager-Smith, Heather Guthrie, Mackenzie Hoolihan, Megan Mullins, Chandler Verhas, Stacie Lawson, Diane Norton, Joann Grove, Sherri Albrecht, Rhonda Fiek, Ron Hillier, Thomas Williams, Mary Jo Roberts, Rachel Derr, Cindy Olson, Sherry Norris, Andrew Purdum, Jessica Stephens and Stacy Gavitt;

• Accepted the resignation of Nancy Srock, school counselor, at the end of the 2021-22 school year; Ryan Myers, technology assistant, effective April 1, 2022; and Jon Silbaugh, substitute bus driver;

• Hired Bryce Nalbach as assistant girls varsity track coach, Kate Pavlansky as junior high girls track coach and Crystal Faatz as extended school year instructor;

• Approved Emma Churley as a volunteer track coach for pole vault;

• Approved a partnership with Alta Behavioral Health to support targeted behavioral health needs of Lakeview students for the 2022-23 school year. The partnership is funded by a grant from the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board, according to Ashley Handrych, middle school principal;

• Closed the Lakeview Local District project construction fund with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. Treasurer Sean Miller said COVID-19 delayed the closing of the fund;

• Had a first reading for updated policies on the following: College Credit- Plus, blended learning, entrance requirements, procurement and use of epinephrine auto injectors in emergency situations, procurement and use of asthma inhalers in emergency situations, weapons, grant funds, cost principles, procurement of federal grants and funds, use of credit cards and food services. Most of the policy changes were updates to language required by the Ohio Revised Code;

• Reminded district voters the Lakeview levy will be on the May 3 ballot. A town hall to discuss the levy will be at 6 p.m. April 19 in the high school auditorium;

• Heard from Handrych that the STEM program received two grants of $7,500 from GPD Group and the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber, which will allow for the purchase of 30 robots that can be programmed to pick up and set down objects and run courses;

• Saw student performances of two numbers from the musical "Suessical." Students recently staged the show at the high school.
