The Warren Police Department and the Northern Ohio Violent Crime Consortium, which includes Youngstown police, received state violent crime reduction grants.
Warren police received $218,344 and the consortium received $130,418.
Warren police's criminal intelligence unit will use the money for new technology in certain areas with high rates of violent crime. The equipment will allow the unit to analyze crime patterns.
The consortium, which also includes police departments in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, Mansfield and Toledo, will use the grant money to continue evidence-based investigative strategies through crime analysis, information sharing and community engagement.
The grants were among 18 awarded Monday by the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program.
