WHAT: Board of Education meetings Jan. 10 and Feb. 14

PRESENT: Russell Sewell, Tim Gibson, Karen Ancell, Bradley Gamlin and Gary Morton

The board:

• Named Sewell as president and Gibson as vice president;

• Approved the purchase of three 2023 Thomas school buses and accessories from Myers Equipment at $97,542 each, totaling $292,626. Superintendent Anthony Calderone said state funding will cover $57,411 for each bus;

• Approved purchase and installation of bus security camera systems from Pro-Vision Video Systems at $26,196;

• Approved committee appointments: Ancell and Sewell, finance / audit; Gibson and Sewell, buildings, grounds and transportation; Ancell and Gamlin, public relations; Morton, athletic council; Gibson, classified personnel; Sewell, certified personnel; Morton and Sewell, technology; Ancell and Morton, curriculum and policy; and Gamlin and Morton, student achievement;

• Hired Luke Borsady as boys varsity track head coach; Anthony Johnson as girls varsity track head coach; Jon Elliot as varsity football head coach; and Kasey Rininger as varsity softball head coach;

• Set the maximum limit for any district credit card account at $30,000;

• Approved the 2022-23 school calendar with first day for students Aug. 31, 2022, and last day June 1, 2023;

• Approved Gibson as the board’s representative to the Trumbull Career and Technical Center board;

• Administered oath of office to new member Gamlin;

• Approved college credit-plus for high school students to take courses at Kent State University for 2022-23 year;

• Accepted retirement resignation of John Maurer, elementary head custodian, effective July 1;

• Hired Joan Haught as a custodian on a one-year contract;

• Approved the LaBrae fifth-grade camp for their annual car show and parade Aug. 12 to 14 at Bascom School gymnasium and parking lot;

• Set meetings for 6 p.m. second Monday of the month at the LaBrae school complex auditorium. The exception is the third Monday in November due to the school board annual conference.
