WARREN -- Community Legal Aid, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has transitioned its live events to social media sites for 2022.
"Most clinics and presentations are still online only, but we certainly hope to offer more in-person options in the not-too-distant future," Jodi Roberts, Legal Aid's communication and development manager, said.
Community Legal Aid, which is based in eight northeast Ohio counties including Mahoning and Trumbull, is offering programs to anyone who may need legal assistance or who has an interest in legal topics. Programs are taught by attorneys and are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Included are:
• "Ask a Lawyer," a question and answer panel set for 5 p.m. Jan. 12 on Facebook. Audience members can ask civil legal questions related to housing, debt, family, public benefits and more. Visit www.facebook.com/CommLegalAid to attend;
• Legal clinics will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays during January. Visit www.communitylegalaid.org/eviction to learn about rights and options for those facing eviction or falling behind on rent;
• A class for homeowners with information about foreclosures is offered online at 5 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Visit www.communitylegalaid.org/foreclosure for resources and the link to join this free clinic;
• An online record sealing clinic is set for 5 p.m. Jan. 11 and offered in partnership with volunteers from Goodyear. Preregistration is required. Those who qualify will be sent the Zoom link information to attend the clinic;
• A veterans screening clinic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Youngstown VA outpatient clinic off Belmont Avenue. Veterans can speak with an advocate to be screened for free legal help by calling 330-740-9200, Ext. 447700 to preregister;
• Trumbull County residents can attend the Clarence Darrow Court Clinic inside the Stone Building on High Street NW in downtown Warren. It is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call 330-983-2584 to preregister for appointments;
• Legal assistance to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault occurs 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Residents can speak with an attorney about legal rights related to divorce, custody, visitation, debt, bankruptcy, record sealing, evictions, protection orders and other issues. Those interested can preregister by calling 330-983-2620;
• Attorneys, advocates and policymakers are invited to attend free training sessions offered by Community Legal Aid. Details and registration information can be found at www.communitylegalaid.org. A session is set for noon to 4:45 p.m. Jan. 26 for training to work with clients with mental illness, substance abuse issues, competency issues and high-conflict issues;
• From noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 27, Legal Aid is sponsoring "Big Ideas Live" online dealing with the impact of taxes on Ohio's vulnerable populations, including the expanded Child Tax Credit.
