A Youngstown nursing home with 10 COVID-19 cases last week saw a steep decline in its numbers this week.
But another facility saw its numbers rise.
Overall nursing home cases of COVID-19 in Ohio continued a steady upward trend that began several weeks ago.
The Canfield Healthcare Center Nursing Home on Canfield Road in Youngstown had 10 cases last week, but the number has dropped to three this week, according to data on the Ohio Department of Health website. That includes one patient case and two staff cases.
The Greenbriar Center Nursing Home on South Avenue in Boardman, however, rose to four active patient cases and five active staff cases this week.
The Assumption Village Nursing Home in North Lima has three patient cases and four staff cases this week.
The Austinwoods Rehabilitation Healthcare Center nursing home on Kirk Road in Austintown has three patient cases and two staff cases this week.
However, when asked Thursday about those numbers, a staff member said the facility currently has two patient and two staff cases.
Calls to the three other facilities to ask whether they agree with the numbers given by the state were not returned.
Several other Mahoning County facilities have smaller numbers of cases. The number of cases at Mahoning County facilities is split nearly evenly among patients and staff.
Seven Trumbull County long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and assisted-living facilities have one case of the virus each. Columbiana County has only a handful of cases this week, and no facility has more than two cases.
The number of deaths among Mahoning Valley facilities rose by one this week. Deaths among Trumbull County facilities rose by one this week to 166. The number of deaths at Mahoning facilities remained at 296, and deaths at Columbiana County facilities remained at 81.
In Ohio as a whole, the number of COVID-19 cases at nursing homes and assisted-living facilities continued to rise, as they have for several weeks. The number of patient cases rose this week from 806 to 886, and the number of staff cases rose from 741 to 859.
The number of cases remained about the same at the area's three prisons. The private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown saw its number of staff cases drop from nine to seven and its inmate cases drop from three to one.
The Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown saw its staff cases rise from six to seven and its inmate cases remain zero. The Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg saw its staff cases drop from five to four. Its inmate cases remained zero.
