HOWLAND -- A large "Let's Go, Brandon" sign in front of the Trumbull County Republican Party headquarters, 1195 Niles Cortland Road, has turned a few heads because of a hidden meaning behind the phrase.
"Let's Go, Brandon" has been part of a social media firestorm since an NBC reporter in October was interviewing Brandon Brown about winning a big NASCAR race. In the background, people chanting something the reporter thought was "Let's Go, Brandon," and the chants were referred to in the report.
But a closer listen revealed the chant actually was "(expletive) Joe Biden" -- referring to the president of the United States.
Since then, many conservative commentators and former President Donald Trump supporters have taken the reporters' misunderstanding as evidence of the media's unwillingness to own up to the anti-Biden sentiment.
Although new Trumbull GOP Chairman Kenneth Kline said he did not place the sign in front of the party's headquarters, it is a popular sentiment about the current president.
Kline, the pastor at First Christian Church of Newton Falls, said anyone looking at the direction of the nation should be more concerned about what is happening with gas prices and inflation than this sign.
"Come on, people," he said.
It did not take long after Brandon Brown's interview for the phrase to become one of the most popular in the right-wing stratosphere.
It is seen in some circles as a way for those deeply opposed to Biden's presidency to identify others with similar beliefs.
T-shirts, hats and other memorabilia featuring the phrase are on sale. There have been several "Let's Go, Brandon" songs released, including recordings by Loza Alexander and another recording with the same name by Bryson Gray.
