High-dollar fire loss in Vienna

VIENNA -- A fire in a barn housing farm equipment did not injure any person or farm animal, but is a "high-dollar" loss to the property owners, said Vienna fire Chief Richard Brannon.
The intersection of state Route 82 and Niles Vienna Road was closed Tuesday morning while township firefighters battled the large barn fire behind a home in the 700 block of Niles Vienna Road SE.
Crews from Brookfield, Howland and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station assisted Vienna firefighters, Brannon said.
The structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived around 8:30 a.m. The roof caved in, making it more difficult to extinguish, as firefighters hauled water to the scene, Brannon said.
The firefighters protected the surrounding structures, including a nearby house. A camper and a trailer suffered heat damage.
Crews cleared the scene around 12:30 p.m., returning with an ambulance later in the afternoon to assist the homeowner with a medical issue, Brannon said.
The fire appears accidental, Brannon said.
The State Fire Marshal's Office sent an inspector to the scene and found nothing suspicious, Brannon said.
The exact cause may never be known, he said.
The barn and equipment inside are a total loss, Brannon said. The loss included several tractors, snow mobiles and other equipment.
"We're thankful there were no injuries," Brannon said.
