State exceeds 1.4M total COVID-19 cases

Expected to hit 50 percent of population fully vaccinated today

The state has exceeded 1.4 million COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, while it will surpass 50 percent of its residents being fully vaccinated today.

After four straight days of declining COVID-19 cases reported, the number significantly increased Tuesday.

There were 7,283 cases reported Tuesday, which almost doubled the number, 3,681, reported a day earlier.

The 7,283 COVID-19 cases Tuesday is up from the daily average of 6,617 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Tuesday's total includes 342 cases in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties combined.

The state had a total of 1,400,979 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 1,249,923 presumed recovered and 21,945 deaths. The pandemic started in Ohio in March 2020.

The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There were 125 COVID-19 deaths since Friday, including seven in Mahoning, four in Trumbull and one in Columbiana counties.

Also, the 424 new hospitalizations reported Tuesday is the second most since Jan. 12. Only Sept. 21, with 459, had more for a single day in more than eight months.

Mahoning County had 27,797 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 24,517 presumed recovered and 650 deaths.

Trumbull County had 20,582 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 18,091 presumed recovered and 520 deaths.

Columbiana County had 12,173 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 10,428 presumed recovered and 243 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 6,294,916 people, 53.85 percent of the state's population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 7,532 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 51.95 percent of the population (118,804 people) had received at least one dose, while 49.71 percent of the population in Trumbull County (98,414 people) and 42.32 percent in Columbiana County (43,112 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the ODH.

There were 5,843,820 people, 49.99 percent of the state's population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 6,300 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 48.3 percent of the population (110,453 people) had completed the process, while 45.91 percent of the population in Trumbull (90,896 people) and 39.45 percent of the population in Columbiana (40,197 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.
