The state is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases not seen since January.
The Ohio Department of Health reported 7,102 COVID-19 cases Wednesday. It's the first time the state exceeded 7,000 cases since 7,271 were reported Jan. 21.
However, 1,021 of them are because of a backlog of cases, according to the ODH.
"As the result of a laboratory reporting delay, today's case count will include 1,021 positive COVID-19 cases from antigen testing between Aug. 15-25," the ODH said in a statement.
It added: "This reporting issue has been resolved."
Removing the backlog means 6,081 cases would have been reported Wednesday. It's still the most cases in a day since Jan. 21. It also comes a day after 5,914 cases were reported.
Of the past 16 days, all but two exceeded 3,000 cases. The past nine straight days have had more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases reported with seven having more than 4,000 daily cases and four of those exceeding 5,000 cases.
Less than two months ago, the state was averaging about 260 cases per day.

The 7,102 new COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday is up from the daily average of 3,747 for the past 21 days, according to the ODH.
The state had a total of 1,228,002 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 1,131,310 presumed recovered.
The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. It had 20,866 total COVID-19 deaths as of Tuesday.
Mahoning County had 24,402 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 22,544 presumed recovered and 623 deaths.
Trumbull County had 18,043 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 16,745 presumed recovered and 496 deaths.
Columbiana County had 10,147 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 9,244 presumed recovered and 236 deaths.
VACCINATIONS
There were 6,081,989 people, 52.03 percent of the state's population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 10,942 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.
In Mahoning County, 50.34 percent of the population (115,122 people) had received at least one dose while 48.12 percent of the population in Trumbull County (95,274 people) and 40.83 percent in Columbiana County (41,600 people) had as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,619,957 people, 48.08 percent of the state's population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 10,250 in the prior 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 46.45 percent of the population (106,229 people) had completed the process and 44.09 percent of the population in Trumbull (87,281 people) and 37.73 percent of the population in Columbiana (38,437 people) had as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
