Trumbull County nursing homes and assisted-living facilities now have 10 total COVID-19 cases compared to just two for Mahoning County, as another Trumbull facility saw a spike in cases this week.
The Clearview Suites assisted-living facility in Champion had six patient cases this week and one staff case. It had one staff case and no patient cases last week.But two other Trumbull County facilities with a surge in cases last week dropped off or nearly dropped off the list this week.
The Gillette Nursing home in Warren has no current cases this week after a two-week surge that included five patient cases last week and no staff cases.
The Shepherd of the Valley nursing home in Liberty had 10 cases last week (six patient cases and four staff cases) but has only one patient case this week, according to new data on the Ohio Department of Health website.
Two other Trumbull County facilities each have one case this week. The Community Commons assisted-living facility in Warren and Washington Square Health Center nursing home in Warren each has one staff case and no patient cases.
In Mahoning County, only one facility has any cases now. The Windsor House at Omni Manor nursing home in Youngstown has one patient case and one staff case this week after having none last week.
Six other Mahoning County facilities that each had one case have dropped off the list this week.
Columbiana County facilities continue to have no new cases.
The number of deaths among local nursing homes has not changed since July 14. There have been 79 in Columbiana County, 157 in Trumbull County and 282 in Mahoning County since that date.
Among nursing homes across the state, the number of cases has been rising in recent weeks. The number was 138 patient cases and 178 staff cases last week. It has risen to 156 patient cases and 268 staff cases this week.
The numbers rose a few weeks ago in the state prisons but remained the same this week.
There were 25 COVID-19 cases last week among prison staff and inmates, the same as this week.
Locally, the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown has two staff cases and no inmate cases this week. The Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown has one staff case and one inmate case. And the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg has one staff case and no inmate cases.
None of those facilities had any cases two weeks ago.
