Ohio exceeded 1,000 daily COVID-19 cases for the seventh consecutive day with just barely half of the state at least starting the vaccination process.
The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,269 new COVID-19 cases Monday.
Because of a lag in reporting cases over the weekend, the numbers for Sundays and Mondays typically are lower than the rest of the week.
Monday was the seventh day in a row with more than 1,000 new cases and the smallest number during that stretch. The state exceeded 2,000 cases twice in the past week -- 2,167 on Wednesday and 2,317 on Saturday.
Also, the state exceeded 1,000 daily cases during 12 of the past 14 days. The only days with fewer than 1,000 were Aug. 1 and 2.
The 1,269 new COVID-19 cases reported Monday are up from the daily average of 1,230 for the past 21 days, according to the ODH.
A little more than a month ago, Ohio was averaging about 260 cases per day.
The state had a total of 1,143,599 COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 1,096,025 presumed recovered.
The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 20,556 deaths as of Friday.
Mahoning County had 23,016 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 21,984 presumed recovered and 615 deaths.
Trumbull County had 17,085 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 16,184 presumed recovered and 493 deaths.
Columbiana County had 9,353 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 8,929 presumed recovered and 236 deaths.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to list Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties as substantial COVID-19 transmission counties because they have between 50 and 99.99 cases per 100,000 residents. The CDC's time period is between Aug. 1 and Saturday.
The CDC recommends everyone, including those vaccinated, in substantial or high transmission counties to wear face masks in indoor public facilities.
High transmission counties have at least 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents.
In Ohio, 43 counties are considered high transmission counties with 40 being substantial. Only five counties are listed as moderate.
Trumbull's rate, according to the CDC, is 85.87 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents, while Mahoning's is 76.53 and Columbiana's is 78.52.
VACCINATIONS
There were 5,852,623 people, 50.07 percent of the state's population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 6,675 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH. The rate is 58.52 percent for those at least 12 years of age -- the minimum age to get the vaccine.
In Mahoning County, 48.54 percent of the population (111,007 people) had received at least one dose, while 46.31 percent of the population in Trumbull County (91,677 people) and 39.17 percent in Columbiana County (39,907 people) had as of 6 a.m. Monday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,435,170 people, 46.5 percent of the state's population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 3,874 in the prior 24 hours. The rate is 54.35 percent among those at least 12 years old.
In Mahoning County, 44.99 percent of the population (102,880 people) had completed the process, while 42.62 percent of the population in Trumbull (84,384 people) and 36.47 percent of the population in Columbiana (37,157 people) had as of 6 a.m. Monday.
