Ohio hit its highest number of new COVID-19 cases in four months as 2,326 were reported Tuesday.
The last time the state reported a greater daily number was April 13 with 2,340.
Ohio has seen its case numbers grow in the past four weeks with health officials largely blaming that on the highly contagious delta variant spreading among those not vaccinated.
Ohio has exceeded 1,000 daily COVID-19 cases during the past eight straight days, including three that had more than 2,000 cases. In addition to 2,326 cases Tuesday, 2,317 were reported Saturday and 2,167 on Aug. 4.
Also, the state exceeded 1,000 daily cases during 13 of the past 15 days.
The 2,326 new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday is up from the daily average of 1,305 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Of those new cases Tuesday, 99 were in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Ohio was averaging about 260 cases a day about five weeks ago.
The state had a total of 1,145,925 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 1,096,852 presumed recovered and 20,580 deaths.
The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 24 additional deaths since Friday.
Mahoning County had 23,057 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 21,995 presumed recovered and 615 deaths.
Trumbull County had 17,117 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 16,194 presumed recovered and 493 deaths.
Columbiana County had 9,379 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 8,940 presumed recovered and 236 deaths.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to list Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana as substantial COVID-19 transmission counties because they have between 50 and 99.99 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the agency's measurements.
VACCINATIONS
There were 5,863,957 people, 50.17 percent of the state's population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 11,558 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.
In Mahoning County, 48.61 percent of the population (111,159 people) had received at least one dose, while 46.38 percent of the population in Trumbull County (91,819 people) and 39.25 percent in Columbiana County (39,985 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,440,830 people, 46.55 percent of the state's population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 5,787 in the prior 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 45.03 percent of the population (102,967 people) had completed the process, while 42.66 percent of the population in Trumbull (84,450 people) and 36.5 percent of the population in Columbiana (37,187 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.
