Two Mahoning County long-term care facilities saw a spike in COVID-19 cases this week.
The Inn at Walker Way assisted-living facility, 8060 South Ave., Boardman, saw the biggest jump. It has had 10 patient cases and five staff cases this week.
The Marian Living assisted-living facility at 9800 Market St., North Lima, has six patient cases this week and no staff cases.
Mahoning County facilities had only eight cases spread out over six facilities last week -- all of them staff cases. But Mahoning County facilities have 31 cases this week -- 18 patient cases and 13 staff cases.
The Masternick Memorial Nursing Home, 5250 Windsor Way, New Middletown, has two patient cases and one staff case this week. Copeland Oaks Rest Home assisted living, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, has two staff cases this week. Six other facilities have one staff case each.
Trumbull County facilities have just two cases this week, one staff case each at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren and Clearview Lantern Suites in Champion. Columbiana County facilities again report having no cases.
Across the state, the number of staff cases rose this week from 332 to 401 and the number of patient cases rose from 249 to 297.
Meanwhile, no new deaths have been associated with long-term care facilities in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties since July 14.
At local prisons, only one staff case at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg is being reported. There are none at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center or Ohio State Penitentiary, both in Youngstown. Last week, each facility had one staff case but no inmate cases.
Across the state prison system, the numbers rose this week with the number of staff cases rising from 37 to 43 and the number of inmate cases rising from six to 17.
