Warren woman cited for concealed weapon

WARREN — A woman who called police about 1 a.m. Tuesday to get an unwanted man out of her apartment later that morning pleaded not guilty to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Ashley M. Heiskell, 612 Commerce Ave. NW, had an arraignment hearing because she did not notify the officer who responded she had a gun in her purse. She was assigned a $2,500 personal recognizance bond and is expected to return to court on Aug. 26.

Heiskell, 33, called police because Javon A. Wellington, 13430 Euclid Ave., East Cleveland, had refused to leave her residence, according to a police report. When officers arrived, Wellington agreed to leave, but it was discovered he had an active arrest warrant out of Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court for a probation violation, so he was arrested.

While placing Wellington in the rear of a police vehicle, officers learned Heiskell had a valid carrying a concealed weapon permit.

Heiskell opened her purse and showed the officers a 9 mm pistol.

After the officer retrieved the pistol from her purse, Heiskell said she did not know she was required to notify him about it.

She was given a summons to appear in court for having the weapon and not notifying the officers when they arrived at the scene.

Starting at $3.23/week.
