Niles business gets grant to fix exterior

NILES — A new business in the city recently was awarded a grant that will help make exterior improvements, according to a news release.

The Niles Community Improvement Corporation Facade Incentive Program awarded its first grant to Tricomi and Associates Inc. to assist with exterior renovations to its building on the corner of Robbins and Lafayette avenues. The program provided 50 percent matching grants for exterior improvements, sidewalk repairs and signage, the release states.

Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz said the incentive program “aims to improve the overall appearance of downtown Niles and the central business district by providing funds for new and existing business owners to repair and refurbish the exterior of their buildings,” the release states.

Eligible repairs include hardscape fencing, facade upgrades, sign replacement and sidewalk repair and installation. A 50 percent matching grant up to $5,000 can be used for facade improvements, while a 50 percent matching grant up to $2,500 can be used for sidewalks, according to the release.
