Nearly half of Ohio has vaccine

Ohio is inching closer to having 50 percent of its population receiving at least one dose of the three COVID-19 vaccination shots, according the Ohio Department of Health.

Of the state’s population, 48.48 percent have received at least one dose as of Monday, according to state statistics. In the last 24 hours, 3,995 Ohioans received vaccinations. So a total of 5,666,991 Ohioans received at least one dose since the vaccination program began.

Locally, a larger percentage of residents in Mahoning County, 47.08 percent, received the vaccinations than Trumbull residents, 44.76 percent, or Columbiana County residents, 37.88 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 95 Mahoning residents received a vaccine shot, 92 Trumbull residents and 55 Columbiana County residents, according to the state website.

There were 660 identified cases of COVID-19 in Ohio in the last 24 hours, according to the ODH website. The average number of cases over the last three week period has been 330. Since the count of cases began, the state has had 1,117,769 cases.

“Today’s number for the last 24 hour reported cases change may be elevated due to a technical issue that prevented a small number of cases from being counted over the past several weeks. The technical issue has been resolved,” a note on the department’s COVID-19 dashboard states.

Over the last 24 hours, 35 people were hospitalized, increasing the total number of people in Ohio hospitalized due to the virus to 61,198.

No new deaths in Ohio due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours, leaving the total deaths at 20,437.

Trumbull has had 16,713 total cases since the count began, according to the website on Monday, an increase of six over Saturday’s numbers, according to the Ohio Department of Health website.

Mahoning had 22,621 cases reported on Monday, an increase of five over the previous day’s numbers that were reported Sunday, according to the Ohio Department of Health website.

Columbiana had a total case count of 9,152 on Monday, an increase of one over the previous day’s report, according to the website.
