Litter cleanup campaign kicks off

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will kick off its litter cleanup campaign this month.

The summer-long program called the Great American Cleanup is part of a national campaign through Keep America Beautiful. Local volunteers receive trash bags, litter grabbers, safety vests and gloves. All cleanup volunteers will receive Earth Day T-shirts, while supplies last, as a thank you gift.

Service groups, neighborhood clubs, schools, scouts and communities seek out littered areas and then register their cleanup date to receive supplies. Registration forms are available by calling the Solid Waste District at 330-675-2673 or 1-800-707-2673. You can sign up to volunteer online at www.gottagogreen.org.

“While last year was the big ‘5-0,’ the COVID-19 outbreak disrupted many of our programs to celebrate this golden anniversary,” Jennifer Jones, director for the district, said. “We hope to make up for it this year with lots of cleanups.”
