Trumbull County commissioners on Wednesday unanimously approved a 10-year, 50 percent tax abatement for Jam Realty Investments of Liberty.
The abatement will apply to construction of its new offices at 1200 Trumbull Ave. The project is budgeted at $925,000, and Jam Realty plans to create eight full-time jobs in addition to retaining its 25 current full-time employees.
Liberty trustees approved a 50-percent, 10-year tax abatement for the project at a March 18 meeting.
Commissioners also tabled a motion to reclassify Dawn Gedeon from her current position as receptionist to a new position of receptionist / secretary with an accompanying two-step pay raise that would have increased her pay level from just over $36,000 to about $41,000 annually.
Commissioner Niki Frenchko said the additional duties listed with the new classification all were part of her current responsibilities. It also would increase her pay level to the same as a clerk, which has more responsibilities than a secretary / receptionist.
Commissioner Mauro Cantalamessa said he believed the recommendation should have come from Gedeon's department head instead of the human resources department. He added that the commissioners should be hesitant to approve raises while many in the county still are struggling economically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In other business, the commissioners unanimously approved:
l Authorizing Shelly & Sands Inc. of North Jackson to start with part one of a countywide road improvement project budgeted at $727,901.90. Affected roads include Fowler Ridge Road between the city of Cortland and Ridge Road in Fowler; Idlewild West Road between state Route 82 and Bedford Road in Brookfield; McCleary Jacoby Road between Meadville Road and West Main Street in Bazetta; and State Street between town square and state Route 87 in Kinsman;
l Temporary road closures on State Street between Webber Cole Road and Webb Road in Kinsman through Friday for culvert replacement and on Warner Road between state Route 305 and Cadwallader Sonk Road in Hartford and Fowler townships from April 19 until Sept. 16 for replacement of the Hartford No. 1 bridge;
l Accepting a $1,211,661 bid from FYDA Freightliner Youngstown Inc. to purchase five Freightliner Tandem CNG Axle Dump Trucks with snow and ice truck packages. It was the only bid submitted; and
l Appointing William Hart as interim facilities and vehicle operations manager until the the job is advertised and someone is hired permanently.
