WARREN — Two men pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of carrying concealed weapons and improperly handling firearms Monday during their arraignments before municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak.
Jovon V. Jones, 25, 16534 Beaverland St., Detroit, pleaded not guilty to four counts of carrying concealed weapons, felonious assault and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, according to Warren Municipal Court records.
He was assigned a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is March 15.
Terrence U. Williams, 28, 700 Buckeye St. NW., Apt. 703, Warren, pleaded not guilty to four counts of carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. He was assigned a 10 percent $50,000 bond and also is scheduled to appear in court on March 15.
The two men were stopped by police shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, near the corner of Parkman Road and Buckeye Street, after officers noticed the black four-door 2014 Chevrolet Cruze with a Michigan plate coming from the parking lot of the Buckeye Apartments.
Officers were following the vehicle because they were looking for Jones, who earlier had been accused of beating the mother of his unborn child with a pipe and shooting the rear tire of her vehicle, a police report states. Officers were told he had multiple weapons with him.
After officers stopped Jones’ vehicle, they learned his Michigan license had been suspended and was expired.
When the vehicle’s passenger, Williams, was approached, he was clenching a bag that was sitting on his lap.
He admitted to officers to having a firearm in the bag. It was moved away from Williams before he was removed from the vehicle and placed in a police cruiser.
The 9 mm Sig handgun was loaded, according to the police report.
Other firearms found in the vehicle, were a loaded Kel Tec 22-caliber pistol that was on the passenger floorboard and a loaded FN 503 9 mm located in the front pocket of a backpack.
Officers also retrieved a box of .44 magnum shells, two boxes of .22 hollow point rounds, as well as multiple identification and Social Security cards. There also were two half empty bottles of alcohol in the vehicle.
