BRACEVILLE --Township trustees, who last fall named police Capt. Chad Bernard as interim chief, on Tuesday decided to give him the job.
Trustee Chairman Jeff Tucker said Bernard was given a pay increase from $1,200 to $1,225 per month for the part-time job.
Trustees selected Bernard because of his knowledge of the police department and community and law enforcement experience, Tucker said. Bernard's full-time job is at a prison in Youngstown.
Bernard has been with the department for several years and was a part-time captain. He was among three finalists for the position which became available last year when former Chief Joshua Rudesill left in August for a full-time position with Champion Police Department.
Other finalists included Eric Breiding of the Windham Police Department and Brian Foor of the Newton Falls Police Department.
