WEATHERSFIELD -- A 23-year-old man was in critical condition Tuesday after he was struck by a vehicle at Deforest Road and Broadway Avenue.
Kyle D. Saunders, 1685 Lancaster Drive, Youngstown, was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries after the incident 10:45 p.m. Feb. 17.
Saunders is on a ventilator and sedated as doctors wait for the swelling in his brain to go down, according to a social media statement posted by the victim's mother 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Police from Weathersfield and Howland, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene. The patrol is taking the lead on the investigation.
The man was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, according to a report.
One police report described the accident scene as chaotic.
A man was lying on the ground at the intersection barely breathing. A 22-year-old Youngstown woman was identified as the driver of the Malibu. She was screaming hysterically and being held back by another man, the report stated. The police report added the woman repeatedly attempted to kick out the rear window of a police cruiser, but was later released from custody and questioned by the patrol.
No charges have been filed. Lt. Bryan Vail of the patrol's Southington post said troopers are conducting toxicology reports on the driver of the Malibu.
