WHAT: Board of Education organizational / regular meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Tarin Brown, Michele Garman, Beth Haddle and Ken Wallace

ABSENT: James Pegg

The board:

• Named Brown as president and Wallace as vice president;

• Approved committee appointments: Pegg, legislative liaison; Garman, athletics; Haddle, student achievement; and Garman, representative to Trumbull Career and Technical Center board and delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association annual conference in August;

• Approved the expenditure of $34,982 for enrolling 70 potential students in the online Educere / Mustang Academy for the school year;

• Heard from Superintendent Russell McQuaide that a leak in the high school gymnasium was found to be a steam pipe leak that was addressed by Proutt Boiler;

• Heard from McQuaide they are waiting to hear about recommendations on the athletic complex field improvements and bleachers that are in need of replacement due to age. Brown said the project is being reviewed on what will be done and when;

• Heard from Haddle of the board to revisit the district strategic plan and school building review which had been set aside due to issues with the coronavirus pandemic last year;

• Entered into an agreement with the Trumbull Mental Health and Recovery Board to provide prevention services for students and to accept a K-12 Prevention funding grant of $7,681;

• Approved College Credit-Plus agreement with Kent State University for 2021-22 year;

• Set meetings for 6 p.m. third Wednesday of each month at high school starting in February.
