WHAT: Township trustee organizational / regular meeting Jan. 5

PRESENT: Ted Webb, Bob McBride and Frank Parke

Trustees:

• Approved Webb as chairman and McBride as vice chairman;

• Approved appointments: Webb to zoning and police departments, McBride to fire department and Parke to road department;

• Heard from Parke they will seek bids in February for the construction of a new utility building at Hillside Cemetery, which was destroyed by a tornado in January 2019. Plans are to approve bids in March or April and break ground on the building in spring. Webb said the insurance on the building was addressed. He said this week the new chapel was dedicated. It also was destroyed by the tornado;

• Approved a new policy increasing from $1,000 to $2,500 the amount department heads can spend without needing prior approval from trustees;

• Heard from fire Chief Dennis Lewis the department received 1,234 calls in 2020, which is almost the same number of calls from 2019. He said the coronavirus may have had a small effect on calls;

• Appointed Andrea Drotar to a one-year term on the park board through December 2021;

• Appointed Curtis Lonsbrough to a five-year term on the zoning commission through December 2025 and David Ross to five-year term on zoning board of appeals through December 2025. Lonsbrough has served on the zoning commission since the early 1990s;

• Approved paying zoning board appeals and zoning commission members and secretary $25 per meeting;

• Set meetings for 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at township hall via Zoom due to the pandemic. The first meeting of the month will include department head meetings at 6 p.m.
