CORTLAND — Law enforcement officials, including those from the Cleveland office of the FBI and the Mahoning Valley Crimes Against Children Task Force, searched a house belonging to a Cortland police officer Tuesday.
More than a half dozen unmarked law enforcement vehicles were in front of 240 N. Colonial Lane, which, according to records from the Trumbull County Auditor’s office, is owned by Steven W. and Cynthia L. Orslene.
Cortland police Chief David Morris deferred comment regarding the investigation to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Law enforcement at the house declined to comment. Messages seeking comment were left with Ohio BCI. Also, messages seeking comment were left with Cynthia Orslene.
Morris said regarding the Cortland police officer Steve Orslene, “At the current time we have no administrative action against our officer.” Other adults live at the home.
No one was arrested during or after the search of the property.
The law enforcement officials were seen carrying out brown paper bags of unidentified material from the residence between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. An open laptop also was seen being carried out of the home.
Law enforcement officials did not say why multiple agencies, including the Youngstown Police Department, were at the home.
One neighbor said he saw a single vehicle pull up in front of the house shortly after noon. It then was followed by numerous other vehicles.
Officers were seen walking into the backyard through a gate of a wooden fence. At least one dog could be heard barking.
A large dark-colored SUV and two vehicles were in the home’s driveway with law enforcement vehicles surrounding them.
Several other unmarked vehicles also were parked on the street in front of the house and up and down North Colonial Lane.
