WARREN -- Four of the 27 issues submitted to the Trumbull County Board of Elections before the deadline Wednesday ask voters for additional tax dollars.
The majority of the issues are renewal levies, but some of the levies request new funding from voters.
All Trumbull County voters will have the option to approve a new park levy. The 0.6-mil, 10-year additional levy would raise about $2 million and be used to maintain and increase park services offered through the Trumbull County MetroParks Board.
The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $22 per year.
Voters living in Warren will get to decide whether to renew a 0.5 percent income tax levy. The tax was originally approved by voters in 2016 to fund police, fire and road services. If voters approve it in the Nov. 3 general election, the tax would be valid through 2026.
The city collected approximately $17.4 million in income taxes during 2016, which is the year of collections before the income increased by 0.5 percent from 2 percent to 2.5 percent. In 2017, the first year the income tax increased to 2.5 percent, the city collected approximately $19.8 million.
The city collected approximately $21.6 million in income taxes during 2018, and collected $22.4 million in income taxes in 2019, according to the income tax department.
Cortland is requesting two new levies -- a 1.5-mill continuing levy to pay for fire protection and a 1.5-mill continuing levy to pay for police protection.
And, Liberty Local School District again is requesting a new levy that was defeated in an earlier election -- a 2.5-mill, five-year additional levy for permanent improvements. It would raise $564,018 annually.
