Girard man arraigned in robbery, assault

GIRARD — A 76-year-old Girard man pleaded not guilty in municipal court Thursday after being accused of stealing items from the Liberty Giant Eagle and then striking a store security guard while being confronted.

Eugene P. Livi, of 824 Lawrence Ave., appeared via video linkup between the Trumbull County jail and Judge Jeffrey Adler’s courtroom. Livi was released on a personal recognizance bond, and Adler set a preliminary hearing for July 8 on charges of robbery and assault.

According to a Trumbull County 911 report, police responded to a call of a man taking groceries out of the Belmont Avenue store without paying. Security told 911 a customer was “getting very close to the manager, and he thinks something is going to happen.”

About 10 minutes later, authorities told 911 the suspect was being taken in for “strong arm robbery.”
