Woman’s body found in Warren Township

WARREN TOWNSHIP -- Police closed off a section of Dover Avenue from Main Avenue SW to Highland Avenue SW for several hours Tuesday after a passerby alerted police to a woman's body found in the grass on the side of the road.

Warren Township police Chief Benjamin Harrell said police are investigating the death of the woman as suspicious. There was no identification on the body, he said.

Sgt. Dan Peterson said the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force is also involved in the investigation to determine a cause of the death. He said fingerprints and DNA were taken to identify the woman, which the coroner's office is expected to do sometime today.

Peterson said once the identity is official, the department will ask anyone with information to come forward to help determine what happened and how the body ended up there.

The body was likely on the side of the road overnight and was not decayed, according to Harrell.

Harrell said a man driving by on his way to work called police about the body, which was found in a patch of higher grass on the north side of Dover, near a detached garage at a vacant house on the corner of Austintown Warren Road. Warren Township police officers and members of the Trumbull County Homicide Task force were on the scene from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, a coroner's office spokeswoman said the autopsy of Timothy Allen Jr., 34, 1584 Ferndale Ave., had not been completed by Tuesday afternoon. Allen was found shot to death outside a vehicle on Martin Street early Monday. Officers ivestigated after a caller said two to three shots were fired about 1:30 a.m. near 599 Lane Drive at the Hampshire House apartments.

Police did not say if Allen's shooting was related to the dead body found Tuesday morning in Warren Township.
