WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Ryan Yoho, Ed Anthony and Kay Anderson


• Heard from Anthony that the committee working to prevent the Leavittsburg dam from being taken down will meet in February to prepare for a presentation in March or April for the Trumbull County Metroparks Board on why the dam should not be removed. The plan to remove the Leavittsburg dam and other dams along the Mahoning River in Mahoning and Trumbull counties is being orchestrated through the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and local communities in a move to help speed the natural cleaning process of the river and potentially spur recreational or economic development along its banks. The metroparks owns the dam;

• Appointed Marcia Armstrong as interim caretaker at Johnson Community Center at $900 per month effective Saturday;

• Approved Caleb Roth and Mathew Smith as reserve police officers effective Jan. 29;

• Accepted resignation of Jason Padula as a part-time emergency medical technician effective Jan. 27 and Kayla Stamm as a part-time police officer effective Dec. 20;

• Approved removing Mason Everhart from the reserve police officer roster effective Jan. 1;

• Heard from fire Chief Randy Daniels that fire calls for 2019 were at 1,114 compared to 1,044 in 2018;

• Approved moving forward to get properties at 3374 Hewitt Gifford Road and 5410 Mahoning St. declared unfit for human habitation, a nuisance and structurally defective in order to get them taken down.
