Man injured in ATV accident
MESOPOTAMIA — William Byler, 18, of Middlefield, suffered serious injuries when his all-terrain vehicle crashed into a tree at 9:12 p.m. Sunday on Wilcox Road west of state Route 534. He was taken to Cleveland University Hospital.
A passenger, Cindy Hershberger, 22, of Middlefield was taken to Geauga Medical Center with non-life threating injuries.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol says.
The patrol, which is investigating, said Byler was driving the Yamaha Raptor westbound on Wilcox when he failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off of the left side of the road, hitting the tree. He and his passenger were ejected.
Farmington Township Fire Department, Mesopotamia Township Fire Department, Windsor Township Fire Department and Middlefield Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
