WARREN -- Proceedings against the Arizona man accused of killing a woman 30 years ago in Austintown are stalled while the court determines if he is competent to stand trial, according to Mahoning County Common Pleas Court records.
Samuel Legg III, 49, is being treated and evaluated over the next four months and then a hearing will be held to determine the probability of his ability to stand trial within a year, according to a ruling by Judge John M. Durkin.
Legg faces charges related to the death of Sharon Kedzierski, 43, who was found dead in April 1992 behind a former truck stop off state Route 46 in Austintown. She had been badly beaten. A coroner ruled that Kedzierski died of blunt force trauma to the head, face and chest.
Investigators say DNA testing linked Legg, 49, to a 1997 Medina County rape case and four unsolved homicides in Illinois and Ohio.
