Tractor-trailer loses steel coil on Interstate 80
LIBERTY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 80.
A patrol report states Leudes Batista, 42, of Marlborough, Mass., was westbound on I-80 in a cargo van towing a trailer and Bryan K. Shaffer, 51, of Salem, was westbound on I-80 in a semi tractor-trailer.
The report states Batista slowed for traffic and Shaffer swerved to avoid Batista and traveled into the median.
A steel coil weighing approximately 43,500 pounds on Shaffer’s trailer came loose, struck the cab of Shaffer and then struck the trailer of Batista.
No injuries were reported from the crash.
Shaffer was charged with failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead, according to the report.
