Man gets 15-to-life sentence for child rape
WARREN — After an attempt to withdraw his guilty plea failed, a Mecca man was sentenced to 15-years-to- life for the rape of a girl, 5, in 2017, according to court records.
Andrew Austin, 28, pleaded guilty in May to three counts of rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition and was given the sentence by Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay, according to court records.
Austin was placed in the Noble Correctional Institution following the sentencing, but in August he attempted to withdraw his guilty plea, according to court records.
An 11th District Court of Appeals judgment entry asked McKay in January to consider Austin’s attempt to take back his guilty plea, and McKay denied the motion Monday, according to court records.
Austin was resentenced the same day to the same sentence, according to court records.
The offenses took place at a Hoagland Blackstub Road home and were investigated by a Trumbull County Task Force for crimes against children.
