WHAT: Township trustees organizational meeting Friday

PRESENT: Ted Webb, Paul Hovis and Frank Parke

Trustees:

• Named Hovis chairman and Parke as vice chairman;

• Set meetings for 3 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month, starting in February, with caucus at 2 p.m.;

• Gave second reading to placing a 3-mill, five-year additional road levy on the May primary ballot to generate $420,000 annually for road and bridge improvements, mostly for road paving. Owner of a $100,000 home would pay $105 per year. Trustees said having funds for the roads allows township the opportunity to seek state Issue 1 money, which requires a local match.

• Received $5,000 donation from an anonymous source through the WaterStone Bank Fund to be used for improvements and repairs at Imagination Station at the park;

• Recognized and presented a plaque of appreciation to police Chief Mike Hovis for his 24 years of service as chief. He retired Dec. 31. Acting police chief is Chris Herlinger;

• Approved Hovis as liaison to police; Parke, roads; and Webb, fire and zoning;

• Reappointed Howard Whetzel to zoning board and Paul Carlson to zoning appeals board, both five-year terms; and Bob McBride as alternate to zoning appeals board, for one-year term;

• Set zoning office hours 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays or by appointment.
